Purgatory Resort ranked #1 for “Best Ski Value” by TripAdvisor in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and has long been known as a fun-family destination for skiers and snowboarders in Southwest Colorado. It’s an easy 30-minute drive from downtown Durango with no mountain passes to cross.
The resort spans 1,360 skiable acres of terrain, as well as 40 miles of groomed Nordic trails. There are 10 chairlifts serving 85 trails, of which the longest is two miles. It’s all blanketed by an average of 260 inches of snow. Frequent storms followed by sunny, bluebird days create perfect conditions for pure alpine nirvana.
A wide variety of terrain makes this resort a family favorite. They offer some premier moguls as well as gentle, forested beginner terrain. Seven terrain parks, including the larger Paradise Freestyle Arena and Pitchfork Terrain Garden, keep the freestylers happy. Features include a halfpipe, multiple sections of rails and boxes, sets of consecutive tabletops and step-up and big air hits.

It has long been known that the San Juan Mountains with its majestic Needles and La Plata Ranges jutting up around the resort provide views compared more commonly to the Alps than the Rockies. Jean-Claude Killy called it:
“the most beautiful scenery this side of the Italian Alps.”
