All Aboard The Polar Express™ in Durango. The Next Stop - The North Pole! Inspired by the award winning book by Chris Van Allsburg, and the run-away hit movie starring Tom Hanks, this classic holiday favorite comes to life as you and your family take a magical round trip journey to the North Pole aboard the historic Durango and Silverton Train. This holiday ride is fun for the entire family and kids of all ages. All are encouraged to wear their pajamas to help bring the magic of the Polar Express™ story to life. "All Aboard" says the conductor, as your train ride to the North Pole begins. As the Polar Express leaves the depot, concessionaires (dressed in chefs' coats and hats) will begin serving hot chocolate and cookies. The Polar Express is read over the sound system and Santa's helpers walk up and down the aisle with the book, turning the pages and showing everyone the pictures. The story finishes just as you arrive at the North Pole. The lights dim, and an announcement is made to start watching for Santa. The North Pole will be lit with thousands of Christmas lights, and Santa and his helpers will be there waving at the Polar Express™ as it pulls in. Santa greets the children. And, for those who believe, he has a special gift - just like in the story. While Santa is moving through the cars, a song leader in each car will pass out song books and leads the group in Christmas Carols on the return trip back to the Durango Train Depot. Classes of Train Seating Standard Class– An enclosed vintage coach will transport you to the North Pole in style. This car is configured like a bus with a an aisle down the middle and bench-style, cushioned seats, facing forward towards the front of the train. Each seat fits 2 people, and the standard vintage coach can seat up 42 passengers. Passengers will receive hot chocolate, a treat from the “chefs” on the train, and the first gift of Christmas from Santa. Deluxe Class – The San Juan deluxe coach features comfortable seating that allows for groups to flip their seats in order to face each to share in the merriment of Christmas. With deluxe class, passengers will receive a ceramic Polar Express souvenir mug to sip your hot chocolate as you sing Christmas Carols. Just like standard class each person will receive, hot chocolate, a treat, and the first gift of Christmas from Santa. First Class – These cars feature comfortable table and chair style seating with plenty of leg room for up to 24 passengers. Choose from the “Prospector,” “Alamosa,” or “Yankee Girl,” that are remodeled historic first-class cars from the 1800’s and specially decorated for Christmas.
