Cumbres & Toltec Train in Fall

Combine a scenic ride on the historic Cumbres and Toltec narrow-gauge train with at least one night of lodging and save on both!

Climb aboard this National Historic Landmark for a 64-mile day trip you will remember forever. This coal-fired steam engine carries you through steep mountain canyons, high desert, and lush meadows as you zigzag between the Colorado and New Mexico border.

Open your eyes to spectacular and rare Western scenery, which can only be viewed from this train’s unique route. Ride in the Victorian elegance of a deluxe parlor car or choose a family-friendly coach car. Either way, a delicious, hot buffet lunch is included. Trains depart daily from Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado, from late May through the fall leaves of October. A luxury motor coach chauffeurs you back to your starting point at the end of the ride.

Day 1

Choose the location that best suits you to spend the night (Chama, NM; Alamosa, CO; or Pagosa Springs, CO.) The following day will be your Cumbres & Toltec train ride.

Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad trips depart out of Antonito, CO or Chama, NM.  (Pagosa Springs is about 2 hours from Antonito, 1 hour from Chama, NM, and 1 hour from Durango, Colorado)

Day 2

Arrive the train station associated with your selected Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad Train Ride at least 30 to 45 minutes prior to your departure time (Antonito or Chama). Each Train Trip description will reflect where the train departs from.

Save room for a delicious, hot lunch at the Osier, Colorado train stop. This lunch is included with your ticket.

You can spend another night in Chama, Alamosa, or Pagosa. Or, if it’s not too late, you can head over to Durango, Colorado for more fun adventures, which is only a one hour drive west of Pagosa Springs.

What to wear/bring:

  • Camera and/or small binoculars (if you have them).
  • Sturdy, comfortable shoes
  • Sunglasses, hat and sunscreen
  • Bring or dress in layers for cooler mountain temperatures
